Writing Updates

April and early May has been a funny time.

On the one hand the sequel to the Triton Run is still not finished! As I write this I am probably 75% of the way through a final editing pass before handing it in, and have lost 10,000 words. They were sections that were repetitive or just which slowed the story. However, I still need to write the end – probably 5-10,000 words worth. I know exactly what it will cover, what happens (and I love the ending) but I need to find the time to do it!

Of course the biggest thing that has slowed the writing down has been promotion of the Triton Run – but that has been so much fun and seems to be successful!

I attended 2 book events on 26 April. Firstly, a northern publisher’s event at the Central Library with Northodox. It was lovely to meet so many of the other authors. I have to admit I was a bit nervous when it came to selling at first and my wife was brilliant. She was great at engaging those who showed any interest in my book, or the stand generally. She sold the first 3 books we sold that day of mine!

Eventually I got my confidence up and got stuck in. Having sold out at that event I went across to a Board Games / Geek event that Northodox also had a stall at. That was a tough gig, it was very quiet but I was pleased to step out of my comfort zone again and made some sales.

The most exciting update has been the support from Waterstones. Getting a book in a shop is a dream and I am so pleased it has happened for me! Waterstones in Liverpool and Chester both stocked the Triton Run, both sold out and restocked. The bookseller in Chester was so enthusiastic they even put a little ‘card’ on the shelf with a synopsis. There are potentially more exciting developments to come but I will save that for next month.
