Dream Come True

The spring saw me continue my mission to get out the house and experience living in the moment – with friends, family, at the football (lets not talk about Liverpool’s end of season) and at gigs. I keep repeating the mantra that live music is good for the soul. It really is.

And we all need something to lift us. After the last 10 months I certainly need something. I’ll talk about what has happened at some point. Or maybe it’ll be incorporated into something new I have started writing. It is on top of the unfortunate situation that led to me getting my rights back from Northodox.

This year I have seen a few of the same artists as last year but I do have more new acts lined up. Dream Come True doesn’t refer to seeing Carly Pearce again (though she is fab) but one of her recent singles where she talks about the sacrifices she made to become a successful singer. I totally get that, and while I am light years away in terms of success I know how much is involved.

My Dream Did Come True – I was in Waterstones – but my next step is to make sure that was only the taste, not the entire meal.

Carly was over hear because she was doing something big in London, so I think she added a few dates around the country. She previewed some new songs off her next album due this summer and ran through a mix of other stuff. She and her band are so good and it was nice to see that she was in a far bigger venue this time around.

While Carly Pearce had moved up to a bigger venue, Glenn Tilbrook was in a tiny room in a theatre in Shrewsbury. Hadn’t been to Shrewsbury for ages so was nice to see it again and even nice to have a few drinks. Wetherspoons was £5.99 for 3 pints v £24 in the venue so you can guess where we drank before and after.

I still haven’t seen Squeeze (though I will be later in the year) and it was my second time seeing Glenn solo. He really is a talent, with Squeeze for my money being an English equivalent of Crowded House. Great tunes, clever lyrics. Check out Untouchable from his solo album Transatlantic Ping Pong.

He must play solo for the love of playing, he can’t earn much from a crowd of a couple of hundred and he sleeps in a huge camper van he travels the country in. Every solo show he does is different, which makes it more interesting, however this time he was absolutely full of cold. I am just glad he didn’t cancel, others would for less (yes Morrisey I am looking at you!) and it was certainly unique to see a singer pause a song to wipe his nose!

I also bought some of his demo CDs, it’s really interesting to see the evolution and inspiration for some of the songs I know and really love.
